Get promoted, don't invest in players, get relegated, collect parachute payment, repeat.
Understandable when it happens to a club that wasn't expected to make the Premier League and genuinely isn't likely to stay there more than a season - or two if they're lucky. But for a club like Norwich that seems to have made it their primary strategy, it's not right. It demeans both the Premier League and the Championship. It disrespects the club's own players and the league itself. In effect, it means that just two sides get relegated.
There's talk of getting rid of Daniel Farke. Or, as Chris Sutton put it on 606 last night, 'should he stay or Farke off?' But that's a diversion. It's not the manager who's at fault, it's the owners.

One season of plenty one season if famine. Super rollercoaster fun. Lots on here said they enjoyed the Championship a few years back.

Any side that gets promoted in 1st place should have a good chance at staying in this league. That’s the whole point of relegation and promotion. Putting the best of the 92 teams in the right competitive groups. I don’t think money is just the issue. It’s about how you play football.
The two leagues have very different styles of play. The PL is always on the floor, more passing etc. it suits clubs that practise a certain way of playing. That’s why Brentford look comfortable because they have been playing a style that will suit this league for years now.
Even our club has more or less has a team that could easily have ended up in the championship. But our manager changed the style, the work rate and discipline of the same players and turned it around.
I don’t think spending is an excuse for Norwich really.
The other angle is also, that’s not a bad look financially if you can guarantee promotion and relegation every 2 yrs. isn’t that like 350m in parachute payments? Must be one of the richest clubs in the country…

Sold their best player to Villa this summer for about 40 million.
Their net spend was negative figures.
Considering they will receive at least an extra 140 million this year playing in the premier league they could have spent considerably more.
They would rather bank the money and hope for the best rather than seriously trying to stay up.

I imagine she doesn’t have money to put in and the revenues from the club are not enough.
What can you do? It’s probably the reality, we should be stopping clubs that use dodgy outside funding not complaining about clubs that don’t. Are Premier league finances so screwed up that you can only survive with murdering benefactors?

It does seem like a commercial strategy. Solution might be to forfeit parachute payments if relegated twice in three seasons. Or some other means of not rewarding repeat relegations.

Certainly not worthy of a thread as the common denominator will be that nobody cares. But agree it's a nonsense and discredits the league. That said the CEO there did have some harsh words after the Chelsea game and said it was unacceptable, but I suppose talk is cheap.
